What is the initiative?
My initiative is a community based filmmaking program for marginalized adolescents in Ottawa. The initiative will consist of filmmaking workshops, supporting the youth in creating their own films. We will end with a showcase with all their works.
What is your connection to your chosen community?
This community, the Strathcona heights in Ottawa, is very special to me given I grew up there my entire life. I understand what the youth are going through to extent, and with the help of the amazing community leaders there, we’ll bridge that gap of connection between me and my community.
What are you looking forward to this year?
I am most looking forward to working with the youth to make something meaningful and exciting for them. Not only do I hope to open dialogue on themes such as barriers related to race, class or gender for example, but for youth to have fun, and explore an art medium that is not built to be accessible for all.
