Youth for Consent Culture

What is your initiative?

Youth for Consent Culture (YCC) seeks to address gaps in Kingston youth’s understanding of consent and healthy relationships. Providing education with a focus on prevention to bridge such gaps intends to strengthen the sexual violence prevention response community.

What is your connection to your chosen community?

In my second year of study, I joined the student-based advocacy group, Consensual Humans. In my graduating year, I Co-Chaired the group and have had the privilege of working with folks in the sexual violence prevention and response community. Through this involvement, I have become aware of the need for consent education before students enter university environments. Being able to address this need and work alongside the sexual violence prevention response community in the process is an opportunity I am beyond grateful for.

What are you looking forward to this year?

I cannot wait to see Youth for Consent Culture come to life this year. This project is something I have imagined since I was young, so to see it realized will be incredible. I hope to gain perspective on prevention work and form lifelong friendships.
